Every single person on planet Earth is different. Some of us share skin colour, religions, sexualities, but we’re still all different. To people who ‘other’, this is a bad thing. Othering involves making an assessment and labelling individuals or groups of people with specific labels that sets them apart themselves. The reason why it's important to understand othering is because it drives division.

It involves the collaborative harnessing of individuals ideas as you all work towards an agreed goal, or outcome, in an agreed timeframe in order to solve a problem. In order for teams to work efficiently and effectively there needs to be a good understanding of what makes a good team in the first place, and what the different roles can be in a team, and what those roles entail as all members pull together with an agreed agenda and defined outcome.
