How to feel empowered
Empowerment, like many things in life, is subjective to the person trying to achieve it. Each one of us will feel empowered to be something different compared with the people next to us. Empowerment is something that can’t be taught or learned as we don’t know what will empower us until it happens. The only similarity that most people have with empowerment is that usually it will revolve about taking control of their life, and being seen as worthy in whatever aspect of life that is. Of course, the difference is that what we feel worthy in will vary from person to person. Another great aspect of empowerment is that everyone can be empowered, it just might take a little bit more effort for some people to feel the gratification from others, but should the individual carry on down that path, they will eventually feel that gratification, and in turn they will be empowered.
As mentioned a moment ago, there are no set ways on which we can teach empowerment, however there are a few ways in which we might be able to get closer to empowerment with a few simple actions that we can take. These include:
FOCUS ON YOURSELF – Things in life are going to happen that you cannot change, and a lot of those things you probably won’t like. But what you can change and what you definitely can like is yourself. Make yourself the best person you can be and let your success talk for itself. By focusing on yourself, you can not only make yourself a better person and employee, but you can also gain confidence which will lead to a greater trust in yourself. At the end of the day, we’re all our own biggest critics so make sure that you don’t critique yourself too hard by working hard and focusing on what makes you great.
FIND YOUR CALLING – Simply, passion triumphs failure. Successful people are successful simply because they are good at what they do. But most of this success hails from having a passion in their life. A setback or two is inevitable, but if you love something enough that you will do anything to get it, then there’s nothing stopping you from achieving it. When you love something enough that you will do anything to succeed, then your passion will overwhelm the fear of failure.
ACCEPT DEFEAT – In order to grow, you need to fail. This isn’t to say that by failing on purpose you will automatically succeed, but it will force you to work harder, better and smarter. Failing at something, whatever it might be, is obviously frustrating and sad and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. When you experience success after that failure however, that success will feel much more deserved, and your appreciation will be much greater for it too. It sounds strange to suggest that failing at something is better for you, but when you experience the lows before the highs, then your self-worth and empowerment will be improved by this journey.
SURROUND YOURSELF – Probably the easiest action that can be taken is to surround yourself with people who have your best interests at heart. When you surround yourself with people that care about you and what you do, then feeling empowerment from them can be a lot easier. Whilst you might feel more satisfied by proving people wrong with assumptions they have made, by surrounding yourself with people that care, you cut out that middle main which is struggle. Having people by your side means having support. They may not be able to help you directly in what you’re trying to achieve, however they will be able to offer their support and encouragement to you. Which is sometimes all you need.
