Glossary of terms:


 

Adaptive – to adapt, be flexible, agile in your thinking, your method

Consequences – what will happen, probably will happen, the outcome(s), usually negative Contemplate – to think about, to reflect upon deeply, usually of happenings, actions, in the past Coping Mechanisms – ways of making the situation, your feeling better

Delusions – strongly believing something that may not be true or logical, a mistaken belief Deter – prevent, stop, get in the way, persuade not to act

Dopaminea brain chemical associated with rewards and motivation

Endorphins – a brain chemical that relieve pain naturally. When they attach to your brain’s reward centres dopamine is then released

Essence – the main, major, the most important nature or indispensable quality of something Exacerbate – to make worse, usually negative,

Fester – to become worse, a wound becomes septic

Hallucinations – seeing things, people, that are not really there, just a cognitive, mental reflection Harness – to control, to use a tool, or a skill to help you, the head straps on a horse Inclinations – prefer to, natural way of thinking or working, following instinct

Indicative – showing you, directing, signposting, a probable outcome

Inevitable – going to happen

Interventions – practical solutions to stop or mitigate (relieve) the issue or problem

Intrinsic – internalised, in yourself, a natural ability, or characteristic,

Journaling – writing down your thoughts, feelings, accomplishments, and actions, learnings at that time

Leverage – to make the most of, to use to help, apply a force to a lever to lift something heavy Maladaptive – not able to adjust properly to the changing situation, eg, just becoming more anxious, maybe drinking more alcohol

Manifest – obvious, clear, recognisable, plain to see the solution, to make happen Mitigate – anticipate, plan, prevent, stop

Neurotransmitters – chemical substances released by a nerve fibre, to move a muscle Numb – can’t feel it, no pain, no emotion

Prowess – can do well, good at, positive

Resonates – makes sense, logical to you, also a sound can resonate, like a police siren Schizophrenia  serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally, hallucinations, delusions

Solace – comfort or consolation to make you feel better, to give you some relief, or remove some of the pain of emotion

Sustainable – will last, can continue

Therapy – professional help with problems from the past, previous issues that still hurts, from a qualified practitioner

Thrive – to grow, to become healthy, better, bigger, stronger
