What is First Aid?

The unpredictability of our life events makes for an interesting ride. You can have new experiences, gain new opportunities, embrace the randomness and where it might take you. But unfortunately, life sometimes isn’t always as kind as we’d like it to be and we often fall over, into, or under something nasty…. We all know what these can entail, and indeed what the consequences are of these unpleasant surprises, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that after we’ve experienced them, they cannot be improved. So what we all need is a practical introduction to the proven theory and skills of first aid. Our positive health is a very serious, and understandably important factor of our lives. That’s why when an accident happens, understanding and knowing what to do in that situation to improve the outcomes in a few desperate minutes of calm and considered action , could easily be the difference between life and death. So, what is first aid, why is it important and how do you learn it?

First Aid is the immediate and initial care provided to an injured or ill person before professional medical help arrives. Its primary goals are to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery. First aid involves assessing the situation, ensuring safety, providing basic medical care such as CPR, wound dressing, and immobilization of injuries, and seeking medical assistance when necessary. It’s a critical skill that can make a significant difference in the outcome of emergencies, ranging from minor injuries to life-threatening situations. We will discuss in the next topic why is it important.
